This hotel was recently converted from a Super 8, so the basic structure is that of a Super 8. It considers itself a boutique lodge, but it’s a pretty basic 3-star option with some extra higher-end finishes. Pros: It’s conveniently located right off the highway. It’s newly remodeled. The breakfast was particularly good. The fitness room offered everything I needed. Parking was adequate. The water pressure was really good in the shower with a nice Moen shower head. The bed was comfortable. There’s an ice machine on each floor. Cons: The room seemed a bit cramped with a less than ideal layout. There was no rack on which to put our luggage so we had to lay it on the floor to get our clothes in and out. There was no exhaust fan in our bathroom so the whole room steamed up. The counter space in our bathroom was minimal. The towels were of average quality. The location on the highway results in road noise. There were no extra blankets in the room; we had to ask for them at the front desk. Overall, it was adequate, but I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. After driving through Banner Elk, I was bummed we didn’t stay there. It’s an adorable community near Boone.

The complementary Breakfast is a mess. It’s good stuff but it’s poorly managed and organized. The staff must know how people interact with the stations and create a flow path that will help guests and make staff efficient. The should just watch the chaos happen each morning using the surveillance video from the room and see where the bottle because are and how to fix it. Should not be reactive, but present a flow that will be efficient.
