The property is in a convenient location, at Union Square. Union Square used to be a attraction. It was several minutes walking distance from my conference location - the Marriott at market street. I was reminded by a few people to be cautious as there are zombies near Union Square. I did my walk anyway at 11:00pm and walked under lighted area. There were a few police cars parked near the Apple store. Hence getting to my place was reasonablely safe, or I was lucky. My room in the 4th floor was abnormally warm and I could not fall into sleep because the heat. I could not turn it off either. In the sencond night and 3rd night I opened the window to get cold air in. I talked to the front desk until the 3rd night to report the problem. The staff turned off the heating from the basement. In short, i think this hotel is relative aged. They could have installed a thermalstat to regulate the temperature. San Francisco is falling rapidly over the last 5-10 years. I have pity for the people living in the city and for the business operating there. They need to choose the right leader to clean the "rats" that have infested the city.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay. There is a bar on the first floor. There also coffee, water and cookies always available there. The area around the hotel is very convenient. Lots of stores and restaurants. The room was clean and it had everything you would need.

A traditional hotel in the heart of San Francisco, even with no AC it was comfortable during the month of January. Staff very courteous. Cable car stop at the entrance of the hotel. Nice place to stay

I was really impressed with The Chancellor, it had that 'old fashion' charm with modern day conveniences. The bell from the trolley car that would sometimes sound was very quaint too and not in any way annoying. The water refill station, tea and coffee service and microwave in the lobby was useful. My son loved the free cookies! I loved that the smell of popcorn would waft up the stairs to all the floors. The room had a very useful fridge with a nice can holder on the door that held 10 cans! The luggage/ changing room was nice too. The bathroom was well thought out and even had a drying line you could pull out. Our room was a bit cramp for the three of us though and I would consider the double beds very small for two! My only real complaint though was that the bed was too soft for my husband and I. Over all a beautiful old world but modern hotel, I would definitely stay here again but maybe get a separate room for my son. Make sure to check out Sears next door for an excellent meal too while your there.

The building and the furniture are all very old. I had to change my room at the beginning at there was a strong bleach smell in my room. The staff are the best. They try their best to accommodate the guests.

This is an older hotel so the rooms are snug. The bathroom door didn’t fully open because it hit the shelf on the wall. There was a space heater in the closet to use instead of the wall heater, which was fine, but it took space in an already cramped space. The hotel was clean and the staff was phenomenal. We had a water outage while we were there and had a wedding to get ready to attend. They said they would call as soon as we were all clear. I guess I didn’t hang up the phone correctly so when they couldn’t get through on the room phone, they called my mobile and sent someone up to tell us. The hotel is centrally located in Union Square. That made it very convenient. However, some things in the nearby vicinity closed early so the area wasn’t exactly bustling. This made it a little scary to walk around at night as a female. Overall, it was a good experience.
