Why???
I often have to kick myself to remind myself why i stay at this very mediocre hotel. Its the price. And that's it. I love to read hotel reviews that say 'nothing is too much trouble' - at the Brittania EVERYTHING is too much trouble. The staff are rude and unhelpful. Something is always broken here - the lifts, the shower etc. Today breakfast was cancelled from 9am. No notice. When i walked in staff shouted at me to get out - no explanation. Loads of other guests in there though. I made a cup of tea in my room after checkin - milk was off. When i went through all the milk sachets given to me, all but 3 out of date. When i complained, no sorry... (Advice to other guests - ask for a 'bag' of milk when you check in if you're going to make tea or coffee - there's never enough) Can't wait for my next stay...

Yuo get what you pay for (Lower your expectations)
This hotel needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. The building may have been attractive back when the Titanic was built, but it's not been updated since and lacks all the basic things you'd want in a hotel. Having said that, I made a spur of the moment business trip with my wife which meant that we would arrive past 10pm and leave the next morning. A 10am check-out is also slightly unreasonable, seeing as I doubt they have many rooms to clean. The cleaners started cleaning at 8am, so my pregnant wife couldn't have a lie in either! The beds are full of springs - you're better off at a budget chain hotel. The prices will be a little higher, but it's worth it for a good night's rest. Plug sockets are few and far away from the bed. The ones next to the bed aren't even UK plugs! The shower/bath was pulsating between hot and lukewarm, and the water didn't drain from the bath fast enough, so you're standing in your own filth. As mentioned in other reviews, there's a constant hum in the rooms. Some people like this. There were 3 receptionists but only 1 was at the desk, so we had to wait a long time for the person in front to check in - there was a queue at 10.30pm?! No smiles. Not friendly or polite. When we asked why we needed to show photographic ID, they said that the police want them to check, which is a load of rubbish - no other hotels ask for this! Cleanliness - it's so old it's hard to clean! Taps have oxidise from silver to green. Stained towels and bedding.
